To you, from us
Breathe.
There is no denying the fact that we are living through some unconventional and testing times. The uncomfortable is becoming the comfortable and the abnormal is becoming the normal. In this time it is important to care for ourselves mentally, physically and emotionally. This is the key for remaining in the right headspace and being able to grow and change accordingly.
“Me” Time: this is time spent with yourself (and preferably no one else); extremely necessary and should be taken seriously (can include, but is not limited to, reading, bubble baths, sleeping, shopping, cooking) all to be done solo so that one can “reload” alone
Here are some things that we hope will help refresh you:
1.Meditation/Yoga
Yoga with Adrienne from YouTube is a solid go-to and she offers many options even for the most busiest people who only have 10-20 minutes to spare. Don’t forget to check out one of our previous Woman of the Week, Nicole Scott, who is the heart behind Yoga Noir Project, which offers a space for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color to explore yoga and what it offers them on their path to wellness.
2. Unplug and Unwind
This might be one of the most important tips! Social media, people, work, school, etc. can all be factors that affect our ability to unplug and unwind. Time away from “the screen” and the voices that come from technology, whether through apps or other means, is necessary so that you can hear your own voice and receive clarity. This looks different for everyone may mean taking a social media break or having a certain time everyday you shut technology off.
3. Journal/ Artistic Expression
Journaling and the use of other artistic expressions offer opportunities for you to release everything you might be emotionally or mentally carrying in a creative way, which can be done effortlessly with no goal in mind other than to rejuvenate yourself.
4. Read
Reading offers an escape to a different world and time away from technology (reference back to #2)! Check out one of our past blog Women’s History Month: 10 Must-read Books for some solid recommendations.
5. Give yourself grace (and ice cream) when you need it
We all have low days and high days, sad days and happy days, days when we need people and days when we want to be left alone. You are validated in all of your emotions and are deserving of grace, and most importantly grace from yourself.
xoxo
