RBG: Ruth Bader Ginsburg
My mother told me to be a lady. And for her, that meant be your own person, be independent.
-RBG
The US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG) died of cancer at age 87 on September 18, 2020. She served for 27 years with the Supreme Court and was the oldest justice and the second women to be a part of the SC.
RBG was born to Jewish immigrant parents in Brooklyn, New York City, and studied at Harvard Law School, where she was one of only nine women in a class of about 500 men.
She was a force for women, a figure and leader who was critical to America arriving where it is today. Thanks to RBG, women (this list is not exhaustive):
Have the right to sign a mortgage without a male
Have the right to have a bank account without a male co-signer
Have the right to have a job without being discriminated based on gender
Have the right to be pregnant/ have kids and work
Have the right to start a business without a male co-signer
Have the right to get a credit card without a male co-signer
Have the right to obtain a business loan without a male co-signer
Have the right to get birth control without having to obtain husband’s approval
Have the right to not be forced to provide proof of sterilization in order to obtain/retain employment
Have the right to have pension benefits equal to male coworkers
Have the right to have equal consideration to be executers of their children estates
For the sake of women’s rights, gender equality, civil rights, liberties & RBG we press ahead and use this as fuel to continue the great work of a remarkable woman. One for women and all for women.
xoxo,
Bri
