W(o)W: Taylor S. Hunter x Photography
Taylor Hunter is an artist who creates intentional imagery for individuals and brands that desire to authentically share their stories. She recalls growing up as a small town girl from Louisiana and being driven by her passion for art. She has always carried a love and appreciation for creating, drawing, painting, crafting and anything else similarly related. Becoming a fashion designer or artist is a dream Taylor remembers having from a young age.
She pursued a degree in Psychology at LSU after being told that a degree in the arts wasn’t practical. Although she enjoyed her chosen path in college and learning how to understand people, in the depths of her heart she still longed to feed her desire for the arts. Taylor shares how while she was pursuing her Psychology degree, she couldn’t realistically envision her reality uniting with her passion and didn’t have mentors encouraging her that it was possible.
Unknowingly, she walked into her love for photography when she began taking Senior photographs for classmates in order to make some extra side cash. Following her graduation she began taking photography more serious and was more motivated to do so after receiving her LSU degree. After two years and two jobs and with photography still as a side hustle, Taylor took the leap and made photography her full-time job. The change didn’t stop there, she soon followed this decision with a move to Atlanta, Georgia in order to continue building her career as a photographer.
Her golden story is still in the making and built on creativity, intentionality, and kindness. When Taylor isn’t on her grind, you can find her listening to music, writing, reading, or enjoying yoga and meditation. She firmly believes that nothing beats a Louisiana sunset and (speaking of the sun) her sun sign is Sagittarius, her moon sign is Cancer, and her rising sign is Aquarius.
Curiosity is a word that cannot be ignored when describing Taylor as it is on of the main factors that has led her to where she is today. She loves to discover new things and through her personal brand she passionately highlights the empowering aspect of self-love, promotes of self-care, and encourages self-expression.
Purpose means unfolding into the divine being that God already created me to be. It requires that I let go of the things that do not serve me and that I ground myself with the things that feed and nurture my soul. When I do this, I live in my purpose.
-Taylor Hunter
Taylor acknowledges that being mindful and having self-awareness is a daily practice. For her, purpose cannot be understood without intention and and both of these factors motivate her as she strives to create work that is impactful and transforms peoples lives for the better.
Creating. The opportunity to give birth to new creations brings Taylor in touch with herself and her purpose. She views creating as an energy exchange, which provides her the strength to give to people on different levels. With photography she is able to help others understand themselves and and their story in a new light. With her personal work, Taylor strives to inspire others to love, express, and work to understand themselves more.
Grace, kindness, and determination are three pillars that strengthen Taylor when she faces challenges. She believes we have been programmed to be fearful of challenges because we are afraid to make mistakes. She encourages the idea that, “lack of action and indecisiveness lead to failure more than mistakes do” and encourages others to not be afraid of making mistakes instead view challenges as our teachers.
She encourages others to stop waiting for the “perfect moment” and instead listen and follow the inner calling of the heart because that is a compass. Taylor believes when you do this there will be an award for your bravery and tenacity. The success, although it may not be immediately evident, will be worth it in the end. Live knowing you are here, wherever her may be, for a reason.
As a creative entrepreneur, Taylor appreciates being able to adjust her own pace and structure as needed. Although it may not be as simple as it sounds and takes a lot of self-discipline, she is grateful for the opportunity.
She is proud of how she made her purpose her reality and fought her fear with faith. It was a hard decision, but this led her to experience a new understanding of herself and provided her with the capability to unlock many unexpected doors.
She is no stranger to dreaming, and each day brings her more goals and aspirations. Amongst them she wants to learn how to DJ, write books (her favorite book is the Alchemist), have an art exhibit, start a podcast, and start a program for rural girls. With her heart as her compass, Taylor lives unapologetically in her purpose.
