Rihanna: Unite & #PullUp

On February 22, Rhianna was presented the President's Award during the 51st NAACP Image Awards. In her speech, she acknowledged her gratefulness for the opportunity to begin the Clara Lionel Foundation, which supports and funds education in addition to emergency response programs around the world. She was also recognized for her fundraising efforts for other non-profit organizations.

RiRi delivered a motivating speech that ended with her calling us to unite and #PullUp. Later in the evening, Lizzo also addressed unity in her speech.

RiRi made it clear about her ongoing fight for unity and addressed the problem of the the toxic mindset that threatens unity. This mindset is the idea that, “‘If it’s your problem, then it’s not mine; it’s a woman’s problem; it’s a black people problem; it’s a poor people problem.’” Rihanna kept it real and let us know that, “If we want to break bread together,” then it’s a problem for all of us.

It’s 2020, but RiRi reminded us that there is still work to be done, walls to break down, and people to unite. Let us, as PPG hustlers, #PullUp for one another in the work space, in public, and in the private circles we occupy.

Let’s build bridges, not walls.
