What you NEED to know about the necessary HB328
HB328 authorizes an exemption from local sales tax for feminine hygiene products and diapers. PPG recently #represented at the Louisiana State Capital when the bill made it off the floor and onto senate (Whoop Whoop)! According to this bill, diapers for adults and children are included and feminine hygiene products are understood to include tampons, menstrual pads, sanitary napkins, panty liners, menstrual sponges, and menstrual cups, including disposable and washable versions of these items.
Why is this important?
Honestly, in my head I thought, “Yay! I can save money,” (every penny counts, right?), but this is not only a fight to “save money,” it is a call to question the reasoning behind taxing N E C E S S A R Y items that anyone who menstruates will NEED!
For a better understanding as to how feminine hygiene products compare (noted as a caption for a recent PPG post), Viagra is considered an essential item and therefore is exempt from local sales tax. Something is not adding up, and this is not a new legislative but one that has has failed to pass for years (plural), let’s end that.
Tomorrow, May 21st, at 1pm, the the Louisiana tampon tax bill is scheduled to go to Senate Revenue and Fiscal Affairs committee. Contact for Senators who will review the HB328 tomorrow is available and our newsletter includes a sample email for this important legislation!
