Happy International Women’s Day 2021!

International Women’s Day is everyday for us, but we want to make today extra special! So, we are giving you 20% off ALL merch, today only!

What is International Women’s Day?

The birth of International Women’s Day happened on February 28th, 1909 when The Socialist Party of America chose to honor the 1908 garment workers’ strike in New York when women protested against their working conditions.

The first women’s rights convention happened in New York under the leadership of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott in 1848. They gathered a couple hundred people to demand civil, social, political and religious rights for women in a Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions. Stanton and Mott were inspired to create this movement after being frustrated with women being prevented from speaking at an anti-slavery convention.

Through the early years of the 20th century, International Women’s Day had a relevant impact on nations all over the world. The history of International Women’s Day includes a variety of dates, and March 8th is linked to the women’s movements during the Russian Revolution in 1917.

After World War II, the United Nations began celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8th in 1975 during International Women’s Year. Yes! In 1975 the United Nations celebrated women for a year and organized a WORLD conference that was designed to create goals for countries that they could pursue through the following years in order to advance women’s rights!

The theme this year is #ChoosetoChallenge. This year on March 8th, we are encouraged to choose to challenge that which doesn’t help gender equality or women, to choose to celebrate women’s achievements and to choose to uplift women in order to create a more inclusive world.
