W(O)W: Living Undefined with Dyesha Belhumeur

Undefined is a streetwear clothing line intentionally created by Dyesha Belhumeur for Black folks, other POC and LGBTQIA+ communities. Undefined is a business based out of Seattle, Washington that strives to encourage their community to live beyond the stereotypes placed on them.

The pieces from Undefined are designed in relation to specific cultures, identities and beliefs of the previously mentioned communities. They are created with the goal of uplifting their members so that they can confidently and boldly live in their truth. The current collection at Undefined includes; Legalize Blackness, Break the Chains, Black Culture and Pro Black. Hint: their Pride Collection will be releasing in Spring 2021!

Dyesha Belhumeur, the soul behind Undefined, is a black and gay woman from Seattle, Washington. She graduated from the University of Washington with 2 concentrations in business and a minor in diversity. If you spend time with her you will quickly embrace her chill “go with the flow” mentality. Whether it be her food or space, she values living in maximum comfort. Don’t let her mellow vibes fool you, you can also find her being goofy and making people laugh. She knows how to enjoy life, but she also knows how to get business done and how to get it done well. Dyesha is determined in all ways and she will accomplish what she puts her mind too, even if she has to fight for what she wants.

For Dyesha, the work never stops and it’s always #grindtime. If she does manage to squeeze a break in, she’ll most likely be eating. Her top quote is, “Where da food at?”

She is a hustler inside and out and uses this mentality to propel her into her passions and goals. She values how her community is understood by the world and how she personally uses Undefined to represent the community. She believes that history is written by the victors and because Black folks have never been in a position to be the victor, their history is written by those who believe then to be inferior.

Dyesha rewrites history with Undefined by including large parts that were ignored when creating and sharing stories of the past, which have been carried on throughout generations. The root of her passion is the ability and opportunity to make a difference in and for her community through her brand. She loves the artistic freedom available to her as an entrepreneur.

“Purpose is what you do in order to create something larger than yourself or the current moment. It’s the motivating factor that motivates you to get up each day and make it through to the next.”

Dyesha Belhumeur

Through Undefined, Dyesha is able to spread her mission and message with the world, inspire people who look like her and meet, relate and network with people she wouldn’t have otherwise met. The glamorous aspects of the entrepreneur lifestyle are often promoted the most, but Dyesha wants the hard work, sleepless nights, tears, and self- questioning to be acknowledged so that others can hold onto her advice, “DON’T QUIT,” even in spite of the difficulty. Every time she has almost called it quits there was something greater on the horizon that she was only only able to reach because she didn’t quit.

It is extremely important that you are your own number one supporter. . . Dyesha confirms that there are others waiting on you to fail instead of rooting for you to succeed, but they cannot be your compass of success. “Manifest the future you want for your company, speak it into existence and never stop pushing for it.”

Dyesha addresses how Black women do not often celebrate themselves nor their achievements and this is because they are, “ too busy honing on to the next one.” She tries to empower other women in her life the same way that she has been empowered by women this past year, by celebrating ALL victories, even the small ones.

Whether it be achievements in the work place, deciding to finally pursue a passion or achieving a personal goal, Dyesha knows the value of it all being celebrated. She promotes the idea that, “by way of celebrating wins, we motivate each other to push for more while being an inspiration to each other.”

Undefined had a 20K sales day! This is amongst the top accomplishments for Dyesha and Undefined, although her vision and mission extends past Undefined as a brand, it is a culture she lives and wants to make accessible to others. Looking ahead, Dyesha wants to buy land for her family, turn Undefined into a global and multi-million dollar brand, create a scholarship fund and tutoring program using company proceeds, offer internships to youth in the community via Undefined and open a base store in Seattle with a complete Undefined experience. She plans on accomplishing this by living #Undefined.
