Creating with Jenay Ross

Jenay Ross is a creator and poet (her first book of poetry and short essays is in the works, let’s show her some love when it drops!). who creates vulnerable and relatable pieces. Her goal is to inspire healing, change, and growth. She is a half Black, half Chinese woman who’s, “taking it one step at a time.” She shares the importance of her personally understanding the balance between listening, speaking up, minding her own business, creating her own path, and being mindful of how she spends her time and energy. she is passionate about intentional living, personal growth, building good routines all while having fun along the way.

She appreciates the opportunity to unite her love for storytelling, flexing her creative muscles and connecting with people in and through her work as all of this brings her joy. As an entrepreneur and creative, Jenay enjoys having a creative freedom and creating something that feels both personal and meaningful.

She received her Print and Digital Journalism degree from the University of Southern California and minored in their Music Industry program. Following graduation, she worked for two years in artist management. She made a transition to the event and digital marketing space.

She worked for Create & Cultivate for a few years and primarily helped with event production and managing the influencer relationships and partnerships. Currently, Jenay is an Account Manager on the the influencer marketing team at FabFitFun and personally collaborates with brands to create fun social media content. Jenay appreciates the opportunity to have creative freedom and create what feels personal and meaningful.

If she isn’t working you can find her reading, practicing yoga, watching HGTV, taking care of her plants, or spending quality time with her fiancé. Pre-quarantine, she tried to be at the beach, at a concert, or at her local movie theater whenever possible!

Resilient. Jenay has worked and grown through many tough situations and each time she has overcome something. Ambitious. through hardships she continues to work toward being better and doing better. Kind. she believes in the power of kindness and that is both healthy and helpful (especially now, when the world feels a little more chaotic).

Jenay understands purpose as something intentional and shares, “It’s what motivates me to do something and is very much related to impact. My purpose is always rooted in what can make the most positive impact on my life and others’ lives, as well as help me feel fulfilled.”

Deep breathing is the first step for Jenay when facing challenges. For the past ten years she has dealt with anxiety and constantly works on dealing with stress and challenges in healthy ways. After deep breathing she begins to problem solve, her experience working in high stress environments has given her confidence with her problem solving skills. She reminds herself that there is always a solution and even if it isn’t the most ideal situation. Jenay acknowledges the importance of asking for help and how it doesn’t need to be approached from a mindset or feeling of shame.

To the entrepreneurs, Jenay encourages the practice of being consistent and genuinely passionate about your business and craft because this will fuel you through the challenging obstacles you endure. She explains that it is not about how fast you can accomplish something but how well and for how long. When creating an amazing product/service, achieving longevity is the goal, however, being uninspired, jaded, and burnt out is not.

Amongst some of her proudest accomplishments is the self-publishing of four issues for her poetry zine Thank You For Being Here. Looking ahead, Jenay dreams of publishing at at least two books, owning a home, and living a happy and healthy life.
